Financial Inclusion for Persons with Disability: Access and Justice

Stars of Hope Society for the Empowerment of Women with Disabilities conducted this study, during the second half of the year 2022. The study aims to describe and measure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in financing and lending programs, it also aims to identify and describe the obstacles facing girls and women with disabilities in accessing financing opportunities that may help them develop their micro-businesses to increase their opportunities for economic production and improve their social conditions. Therefore, the study focused on two main axes, which are: describing the inclusion of persons with disabilities in financing and lending programs, and their ability to access financial services.
The study resulted in several conclusions, and the most prominent one was the main conclusion that despite the participation of persons with disability, both men and women, in the financial sector (banking and non-banking), it is necessary to empower persons with disabilities, specifically women with disabilities, in other development sectors before moving toward financial inclusion, such as education, health, reducing poverty, increasing knowledge and employment opportunities. This is in addition to other conclusions, including the absence of data related to persons with disability in the banking sector, and the lack of relevant data adaptations.
